Bose Sounddock Portable Specifications

Founded in 1964, Bose is a professional and home audio company that claims to continually seek ways to improve sound quality. In fact, the company has reinvested 100% of profits back into company research, according to the Bose website. One recent product that Bose has designed for private use is the SoundDock Portable, which allows iPod users to dock and play music without the use of headphones.

Overview

The SoundDock Portable system features speakers and a docking station for an iPod. It comes with a rechargeable lithium-ion battery already installed, and is capable of about three hours of battery life when volume is fully cranked. The battery may last longer if the volume is lowered. The whole device can be carried by the built-in handle; it can also be played while plugged in and charging. It comes with a remote control, and the front docking station rotates in and out for easier travelling.

Compatibility

The SoundDock Portable's front docking station fits all iPhones and most iPod models as of 2010; charges the iPod while it is docked. Although the SoundDock is designed for the iPod in mind, it can work with other MP3 or CD players through the 3.5mm auxiliary input on the back of the SoundDock Portable. These devices will provide the same quality of sound as an iPod.

Measurements

With the dock closed, the SoundDock measures 6.75 inches in height, 12.95 inches in width and 6.06 inches in depth. Opening the dock adds 0.88 inches in depth. It weighs 2.37 Kilogram.

Other Specifications

The Sounddock remote control can adjust the volume, as well as basic iPod functions. The Sounddock Portable costs about £260 (as of October 2010). It does not have bass or treble controls, and has no clock or AM/FM radio.
