Craft Show Scarf Directions

Scarves are playful accessories for any season, and according to the fashion experts at the website, Grace'N Glamour, they can be worn to complement almost any outfit on both adults and children. If you have a basic knowledge of knitting, you can provide a selection of handmade scarves at craft shows. A simple way to do this is by creating novelty yarn scarves, which you can knit in an array of colours to suit any customer.

Skill level:Easy

Things you need

250 to 300 yards of novelty yarn for scarfSize US 13 or 15 knitting needlesLarge-eyed yarn needlesIron with steam functionBusiness cardsRibbonHole punch

Instructions

1 Cast 15 stitches onto the needle. Use any method of cast-on you are comfortable with. Don't pull the stitches too tight.

2 Slip the first stitch in the row. Knit across the rest of the stitches in the first row. Keep the stitches slightly loose.

3 Slip the first stitch for the next row and knit the rest of the stitches. You will repeat this action for every row.

4 Knit rows until the scarf is 60 inches long.

5 Bind off on the next row. Don't bind off too tightly; maintain a medium tension.

6 Cut the yarn after the last stitch is secured. Leave a six-inch tail.

1 Weave in the loose ends from the beginning and the end using the large-eyed yarn needle. Thread the needle with the yarn tail, then draw it in and out of the fabric along the edge until the tail is worked into the scarf.

2 Lightly steam the scarf. Allow the scarf to dry.

3 Cut a six-inch length of ribbon.

4 Punch a hole in the top left corner of your business card.

5 Thread the ribbon onto the large-eyed yarn needle and through the scarf's bottom edge. Draw the ribbon through the hole in the business card. Tie a bow in the ribbon, attaching the business card to the scarf.

Tips and warnings

Try casting on different amounts of stitches. Ten stitches will make a skinny scarf for summer, whereas 20 stitches will make a fuller, thicker winter scarf.

You can add fringe for variety. Cut 30 eight-inch lengths of the yarn for each scarf end. Attach by folding each length in half, pulling the middle of the length through the edge with a crochet hook, then drawing the loose ends through the loop. Repeat until all the lengths are used.

Purchase enough of the same dye lot yarn to finish each scarf.
