Fur jackets will keep you cosy and warm but you cannot simply throw them in the washing machine when they get dirty. One cleaning option is to take them to a professional fur cleaner who is familiar with the fur and what processes will get it clean. This is the recommended option if your fox fur jacket is old or delicate. If you cannot afford to send your fur jacket to a professional, consider cleaning it on your own.

Skill level:Moderately Easy

Things you need

CornstarchFur brush

Instructions

1 Lay the fox fur jacket on a surface on front of you so that it is as flat as possible.

2 Sprinkle cornstarch over the surface of the fur. Pay special attention to areas that appear dirtier such as the collar or cuffs of the jacket.

3 Rub the cornstarch into the fur with the tips of your fingers.

4 Let the cornstarch sit for at least 20 minutes. This will give it time to loosen stains and absorb odours.

5 Shake out all of the cornstarch into a sink or rubbish bin.

6 Brush the coat with a fur brush. This will remove the rest of the cornstarch and will loosen up the fur bristles.

7 Repeat the process if the jacket is still dirty.
