How to build homemade jewelry displays

Building your own jewellery display can be inexpensive and rewarding. Collect a few materials around your house, go treasure hunting at yard sales, and take an afternoon to dedicate to your new craft project. Using little bit of handy work, you'll be surprised at how professional looking your new display will be to use to keep jewellery neat at home or attractively displayed at craft shows.

Skill level:Moderate

Things you need

Picture frameRulerMesh screenDamp clothScissorsCraft knifeStapler with staplesRibbon, hanging bracket, or easel

Instructions

1 Measure the size of the collection of jewellery you wish to display--the length of earrings and number of pieces, allowing space between each item and row--and find a picture frame that corresponds to the size requirements for your project. The frame style can be as simple or ornate as you want it to be, but just remember to have it match the style of earrings you would like to display.

2 Remove the backing, cardboard, and glass from a frame of the appropriate size. You may want to save this for your next craft project, but for now, you may discard it or set it aside.

3 Wipe the frame with a damp cloth to clean all its nooks and crannies. Doing so will be much easier before the screen is attached and will help create a more professional looking display.

1 Flip the picture frame over to the back side. Hold the screen up to the opening and decide on approximate sizing.

2 Trim the screen with your scissors. Staple it to the lip where the glass previously rested on.

3 Trim away any excess screen using a craft knife. Clean edges are important because they may be visible once the frame is ready for display.

1 Hang your frame directly on the wall to complete your project if your frame has brackets already installed.

2 Staple your favourite ribbon to two corners of your frame, if more decorative interest is desired. You may tie a bow in the middle of the ribbon before stapling, or simply attach the ribbon, as is.

3 Rest your frame on a small tabletop easel if you choose not to display your jewellery on a wall, or need to make your display portable.

Tips and warnings

Many frames are delicate. Take care choosing a stapler. as heavy-duty staplers may break the frame.
