How to Change a Belt on a Dirt Devil Featherlite

The Dirt Devil Featherlite is an upright bagless vacuum cleaner that is relatively lightweight. It features a fold-down handle, making it easier to store in compact places. The Featherlite vacuum can last for years and needs little maintenance. With continued use and over time, however, belts can wear out or break down. Replacement belts are available to order directly from Dirt Devil and can be easily replaced, using only a screwdriver.

Skill level:Easy

Things you need

Phillips screwdriverDirt Devil style 19 belt

Instructions

1 Unplug your vacuum cleaner and lay it flat to expose the bottom of the vacuum. Rest the nozzle guard against the floor.

2 Remove the four screws located on each corner of the nozzle guard, using the Phillips screwdriver. Place the screws aside. Remove the nozzle guard by pivoting it slightly, then pulling up and away from the vacuum.

3 Remove the exposed brush roll by lifting it up and out of the vacuum. This will free the old belt. Remove it and dispose of it.

4 Slide one end of the new belt over the motor shaft. Place the other end over the end of the brush roll with no bristles.

5 Pull the brush roll back in to the nozzle with the belt attached. The square end caps should slide into place. Rotate the brush roll, using your hand to ensure the belt is in place.

6 Replace the nozzle guard and replace the screws you previously removed to secure it.

Tips and warnings

Never attempt to change parts while your vacuum is plugged in.
