The hub on a Chevrolet pickup allows the front wheels to turn. The hub holds internal bearings, and those bearings are completely sealed. Should the front wheels start to squeak, that may be a sign that the hub is starting to go, and you will need to replace it. To do that, you must disassemble the front suspension and remove the hub from the truck. If you have average auto repair knowledge and the right tools, this will take about an hour to perform.

Instructions

1 Park the Chevrolet on a level surface and set the parking brake. Lift up the front end of the vehicle with the jack and place the jack stands underneath the frame. Remove the wheels by unbolting the lugs with a tire wrench.

2 Unbolt the brake caliper and brake caliper mounting bracket from the steering knuckle with the 3/8-inch ratchet and socket, then hang the caliper on the frame with the mechanic's wire. Unplug the wheel sensor wire from the hub with your hands.

3 Mark the point where the speed sensor harness intersects the steering knuckle with the paint marker. Unbolt the hub and brake rotor mounting bolts from the backside of the steering knuckle with the 3/8-inch ratchet and socket, then pull the hub and rotor off of the knuckle.

4 Place the rotor down on the ground. Unbolt the hub from the rotor with the 3/8-inch ratchet and socket. Discard the old hub, then install the replacement hub on the rotor and torque it down to 15 foot-pounds with the 3/8-inch torque wrench. Reinstall the hub and rotor assembly on the knuckle with the 3/8-inch ratchet and socket, then torque the bolts down to 92 foot-pounds with the 3/8-inch torque wrench.

5 Bolt the brake caliper mounting bracket and brake caliper to the steering knuckle with the 3/8-inch ratchet and socket. Reinstall the speed sensor harness with your hands, using the paint marker point as a reference to make sure that the wire is run correctly.

6 Reinstall the wheels using a tire wrench and lower the Chevrolet off the stands with the jack.
