How to Clean a Marshall Fields Merino Wool Blanket

Merino wool, from the Merino sheep, is one of the softest wool types available. Items made from Merino wool must receive gentle treatment to look their best. It is best to hand-wash merino wool blankets instead of using a washing machine, since rough treatment could cause the blanket to lose its shape. Use tepid water only because washing with hot water, then rinsing with cold, will cause the blanket to "felt," or become matted together.

Skill level:Easy

Instructions

1 Fill a basin full of warm water and mix with a mild and gentle soap, such as liquid dishwashing soap. Use enough soap to produce suds.

2 Soak the blanket in the water for up to five minutes. Swish the blanket in the water gently to loosen dirt. Rinse it clean in warm water.

3 Squeeze the moisture from the blanket but avoid twisting or wringing it. To remove even more moisture, roll the blanket up in a thick, absorbent towel, which you can squeeze gently.

4 Spread the blanket on a flat surface to air-dry. Morehouse Farm recommends arranging the blanket into its proper shape. This may involve pulling at the edges of the blanket gently until they are as straight as they should be.
