How to Clean Grout With Oxiclean

OxiClean is a type of oxygen bleach that is used not only in laundry, but for cleaning grout as well. It works by releasing oxygen during cleaning that targets the stained areas of the surfaces. Cleaning grout with OxiClean is an eco-friendly way to remove dirt, mildew and stains from grout. Try cleaning with OxiClean rather than using toxic cleaners that may be unsafe for people and the environment alike.

Skill level:Easy

Things you need

Vacuum cleaner or hand-held broomBowl or bucketOxiCleanSpoonMeasuring cup with lip or turkey basterOld toothbrush or grout brushRagsMop

Instructions

1 Remove loose dirt and dust from the grout. Use a vacuum cleaner or hand-held broom to sweep the grout lines.

2 Fill a bowl or bucket with an OxiClean and warm water solution. Use 2 to 4 tbsp. OxiClean per 2 cups warm water. Stir the OxiClean and water until the powder is completely dissolved. The amount of cleaning solution you will need will depend on the size of the tiled area you are cleaning.

3 Use a measuring cup with a lip or a turkey baster to apply a generous amount of the cleaning solution onto the grout. Start at the back of the room and work your way towards the door if cleaning a tiled floor. Work in sections if you are cleaning a large area so that the cleaning solution does not dry onto the surface.

4 Allow the OxiClean mixture to sit on the grout for 5 to 15 minutes, depending on how dirty the grout is. The dirtier the grout, the longer the mixture needs to sit. If the grout is really dirty and the solution must sit for longer than 15 minutes, wipe the surface with a dry rag and reapply more OxiClean solution.

5 Scrub the grout with an old toothbrush or grout brush. Dip the brush into the bucket of cleaning solution before scrubbing. Rinse out the brush often in the bucket during scrubbing.

6 Wipe up the moisture from the grout with old rags. Mop or wipe down the grout, as well as the entire tiled surface, with a mop or rag and plain water.

7 Go over the surface with a dry rag or mop, or let the surface air dry. Using a dry rag or mop will eliminate any water steaks that may form on the tile.
