How to Clean Plastic Frames

While the lenses of your eyeglasses often suffer from stains and smudges, the plastic frames of your glasses are also subject to dirt and debris. When putting your glasses on and taking them off, your fingers can leave oil and other residue on the plastic. Over time, without cleaning, the plastic will dull and become visibly dirty. Fortunately you can return the frames to a sparkling clean state with a couple of household items.

Skill level:Easy

Things you need

Small containerLukewarm water2 to 3 drops of mild liquid soapNon-abrasive sponge2 soft cotton cloth

Instructions

1 Fill a small container with lukewarm water and add two to three drops of mild liquid soap. Agitate the water with your fingers to form bubbles.

2 Dip a non-abrasive sponge in the soapy water and squeeze it gently so it is damp, but not dripping.

3 Wipe the plastic frames with the sponge to clean. Wet a clean cotton cloth under lukewarm running water and squeeze gently. Wipe the plastic frames with the damp cloth to remove soap residue.

4 Wipe the frames dry with a clean cotton cloth.

Tips and warnings

Do not use abrasive or harsh tools or cleaners on plastic eyeglass frames as they could scratch or damage the finish.
