How to Clean Wood Laminate Flooring

Wood laminate flooring is a popular choice among homeowners looking to add elegance to their home without spending a fortune. Laminate flooring is attractive like real wood floors but is a fraction of the cost to install. Just like any other type of flooring in your home, wood laminate will become dirty and require cleaning. It is important to clean wood laminate flooring properly to preserve its appearance and prevent damage from occurring.

Skill level:Easy

Things you need

Broom or vacuum cleanerBucketWaterMicrofiber mopWhite vinegar

Instructions

1 Remove loose dirt, debris and dust from the floor with a soft broom or vacuum cleaner. If using a vacuum cleaner, make sure to use the hard-floor setting or use a vacuum cleaner with a soft-brush attachment.

2 Fill a bucket with warm water. Dip a microfiber mop into the bucket and wring it out well.

3 Mop the laminate flooring with the microfiber mop and water, working in sections of about three feet wide and the entire length of the room. Overlap your mop strokes to ensure that no part of the floor is missed, and rinse and wring out the mop frequently. Use as little water as possible when cleaning laminate to avoid damaging it.

4 Dry each section of the floor promptly with a soft rag to remove any moisture.

5 Mix ¼ cup white vinegar and 1 gallon of warm water for a stronger cleaning solution if your laminate floors are especially dirty. Mop the floors with a microfiber mop in the same manner described above. Make sure to dry each section of the floor promptly.

Tips and warnings

Avoid using soap-based cleaners, abrasive cleaning products or pans, or mop and shine cleaning products on wood laminate flooring. Steel wool pads and scouring pads should also be avoided.

If you have stubborn stains on your laminate flooring, clean the area with a soft rag and acetone nail polish remover. Wipe the floor with a damp rag promptly after cleaning.
