Instructions

Cutting Ceramic Tile

1 Place a tile onto a sheet of heavyweight paper and trace the size and shape of the tile with a pencil. Cut the pattern out with scissors. Place the paper pattern over the fixture. Trace around the fixture placement on the paper with a pencil. Cut the traced area out.

2 Turn the tile over and place the pattern over the tile. Trace the fixture placement onto the tile.

3 Cut a hole in the tile with a diamond dust blade hole saw. Keep water flowing onto the when cutting. Use a garden hose, turned on enough to keep a slow and steady amount of water flowing from the hose.

4 Measure from the edge of the hung wall tile to the fixture with a tape measure and mark the placement on the back of the tile. Extend the line down the tile so that it passes through the hole. Use a straight edge to ensure a straight line.

5 Cut the tile along the line with the wet saw. You will now have two halves, each with a portion of the hole. Place each half of the tile on either side of the fixture for tight placement.

Nipping Ceramic Tile

1 Create a paper pattern of the fixture placement and cut it out with scissors.

2 Place tile nippers at the edge of the tile portion that requires cutting. Squeeze the handle together to cut away small pieces of tile.

3 Cut away small pieces of tile until you reach the drawn guideline marked on the tile. Tile nippers will create jagged edges, which you hide behind the fixture escutcheons.

Tips and warnings

Wear gloves, safety glasses and a dust mask when cutting tile.

Cut tiles around fixtures last and after the rest of the wall is up.

Practice cutting or using tile nippers on scrap tile.
