How to Draw an American Soldier

Capture the heroism and unfaltering loyalty of an American soldier in your own originally rendered drawing. They can be drawn realistically or as an exaggerated caricature that just stepped out of an action film. For decades, soldiers have been used as subjects for media spanning from the Sunday paper comic strips and adventure novels to the protagonists in today's top video game hits. A soldier from any of the branches of American military service can be a basis for your drawing.

Skill level:Moderate

Things you need

PencilPaperRuler

Instructions

1 Sketch in an oval for the head. Add a horizontal line in the centre of the circle as a guide for placement of the eyes.

2 Draw a wire-frame version of the body. Use simple lines to show the position of the arms and legs. Sketch out the position of your soldier's gun. Erase and redraw your lines liberally until you are pleased with your American soldier's pose.

3 Use the horizontal line in the head as a guide to draw in the eyes and ears. Finish the nose and mouth. Draw the mouth with a slight downward curve to give your soldier a sombre expression.

4 Define the soldier's hat by sketching its shape onto the top of the head.

5 Finish the soldier's uniform. Use the skeletal guidelines to help you with placement, and draw the shape of the soldier's jacket and trousers.

6 Use a ruler to finish the lines in your soldier's rifle.

7 Finish your drawing by adding details like pockets, buttons and medals.

Tips and warnings

Any mistakes while drawing the uniform can be turned into wrinkles.

Study the look of a real rifle to make your drawing authentic in appearance.
