How to Dye Your Hair With Blonde and Red Underneath

Changing your hair colour is a quick and easy way to alter your looks. However, if you go to a salon to have your hair dyed, you'll be paying quite a bit of money for the service. You can purchase your own hair bleach and hair dye from any beauty supply or drugstore and change your hair colour yourself for a fraction of the price. With a few simple tricks, you can even have two-toned hair in a couple of hours.

Skill level:Moderately Easy

Instructions

Bleaching Hair

1 Put on the plastic gloves. Pour the hair bleach into a bowl. The hair bleach will be in powder form.

2 Add a small amount of hair peroxide to the bleach. Use the dye brush to mix the ingredients together well. Continue to add the peroxide until the consistency of the bleach is like a thick gravy.

3 Apply the bleach to your hair using the brush. Ensure that you completely saturate your entire head with the bleach to get the best colour possible.

4 Leave the hair bleach in your hair for the appropriate time stated in the instructions. Never leave hair bleach on your hair for longer than the time stated--this can cause blistering of the scalp.

5 Rinse the bleach out of your hair using cool water. Allow your hair to air dry before beginning to dye it.

Dyeing Hair Blonde

1 Divide your hair in half to separate the hair section you want to be blonde and the hair section you want to be red. Pull the hair to be dyed red into a small ponytail. Wrap the ponytail in tin foil to ensure that the blonde colour won't bleed into the bottom section of your hair.

2 Put on the plastic gloves. Pour the blonde hair dye into the bottle of hair colour developer. Shake the bottle to mix both ingredients well.

3 Separate the top section of your hair to be dyed blonde into four parts. Secure each section with a hair clip. Start with the first section and use the dye brush to saturate it with the blonde colour. Ensure the entire section is thoroughly soaked before moving on to the next. When finished with the first section, clip it back up into the hair clip.

4 Release the second hair clip from your hair. Apply the hair dye to this section, saturating it, and clip it back up. Do this with the remaining two sections.

5 Place a piece of foil across your head to separate the blonde section from the hair to be dyed red. Keep the foil in place by securing it with several hair clips to prevent the blonde dye from bleeding into the lower section.

Dyeing Hair Red

1 Pour the red hair dye into the hair colour developer bottle. Shake the bottle thoroughly to mix the liquids. If the lower section of hair to be dyed red is less than half of your hair, you will not have to separate it. If it is half of your hair, separate it into two sections.

2 Apply the red dye with the dye brush and saturate your hair well. Make sure the colour is evenly applied across the top of the section.

3 Leave the hair dye in your hair for the amount of time specified in the instructions.

4 Rinse the hair dyes out of your hair using cool water. When the water runs clear, apply a deep-conditioning treatment . Keep the conditioner in for about five minutes, then rinse out. Style as usual.
