How to Dye Your Hair With Markers

There are many products an individual can use to dye hair. Store bought dyes, natural dyes, Kool-Aid, they're all tried and true and they all work with varying results. An alternative to traditional dyes is markers. With markers you are not limited to the colour you dye your hair. The dyeing process can be completed quickly, if not a little messily. Dying your hair with markers is not permanent. The colour should wash away after just a few shampooings.

Skill level:Easy

Things you need

Wide-tooth combHair clipsLatex glovesBingo markers

Instructions

1 Comb your dry hair with a wide-toothed comb. Work with hair that has not been washed or conditioned for at least 24 hours.

2 Clip your hair into sections and clip to the top of your head. Leave the underneath portion down. This is where you will apply the marker first.

3 Put on latex gloves to avoid staining your hands, and comb a small section of hair.

4 Remove the lid from a marker and, starting at the roots, pull the marker down the strands of hair. Repeat until the entire section of hair is coloured.

5 Grab a section of hair from the clipped hair pieces that is above the one you just coloured and repeat the process. Work from the hair at the lowest part of the scalp to the top, and from the back of the head to the front. Continue until your hair is completely dyed.

Tips and warnings

Regular markers also work, but the colour will not be as vibrant as with the bingo markers.

Dying your hair with markers is not permanent.

Do not use any products or tools that use heat on your newly dyed hair. The heat interacting with the dye may damage and even break your hair.
