How to eat with the Slim Fast Diet

The Slim Fast program is a combination of real food and meal-replacement products designed to meet your daily nutritional needs while lowering calorie consumption. Slim Fast products include pre-made canned shakes, powdered shake mix you can use to create your own shakes at home and meal replacement bars and snack bars. Flavour choices vary from "Peanut Butter Crunch Time" and "Chocolate Nougat Gone Nuts" to "Cappuccino Delight" and "French Vanilla". Always consult your doctor before beginning any weight-loss program.

Skill level:Moderately Easy

Instructions

1 Replace breakfast and lunch with two Slim Fast products. You may choose from any of the shakes of meal replacement bar options. Most meal-replacement options contain between 180 and 200 calories and provide between 20 and 50 percent of your daily vitamin and mineral requirements.

2 Prepare a 500-calorie dinner that contains lean protein, vegetables and a complex carbohydrate. If you divide your dinner plate into quarters, 1/4 of the plate should contain protein, 1/4 would be your starch and 1/2 of your plate would contain vegetables. The Slim Fast website provides menu samples and recipes.

3 Choose three snacks that contain about 100 calories each. You may eat a combination of real food and Slim Fast snack bars. Don't confuse the Slim Fast snack bars with the meal replacement bars. Snack bars are smaller and have fewer calories. The Slim Fast website recommends snacking on fruits, vegetables, nuts and Slim Fast snack bars. Snacking will help stabilise your blood sugar and keep your metabolism up.

Tips and warnings

The Slim Fast program is a calorie-restricted diet -- around 1,200 calories per day. Depending on your activity level, this may not be enough food for you.
