Many homes have aluminium siding or aluminium fascias to protect the underlayment walls. Aluminium siding will oxidise over time due to exposure to the elements. Oxidation ranges from a white to a green powder, and it makes your aluminium siding look old and worn out. Fortunately, there are cleaners that can help you quickly deoxidize the siding on your home.

Skill level:Moderately Easy

Things you need

Aluminium siding cleanerPressurised sprayerGarden hoseBristle brushSilicone-free sprayRag

Instructions

1 Pour aluminium siding cleaner into a pressurised sprayer and add the appropriate amount of water. The amount of water will vary depending on the brand of cleaner you choose. If you choose a bottle of cleaner that has a hose attachment built into the container, thread a garden hose onto the threaded coupler on the bottle then connect the garden hose to an outside spigot. Each type of bottle uses a different method of regulating the water pressure. Follow the directions printed on your bottle of cleaner to determine the proper amount of water pressure. In most cases, the regulator is on the front of the nozzle.

2 Spray the surface of the aluminium with the cleaner to deoxidize the aluminium.

3 Scrub the surface of the aluminium with a soft-bristled brush to remove the oxidation build-up.

4 Rinse the aluminium off with a garden hose. Wait for the aluminium to dry before moving on.

5 Spray the aluminium siding with a silicone-free spray, such as Armor All, Turtle Wax or vinyl conditioner.

6 Wipe the surface dry with a clean rag. This should restore the lustre and shine to the aluminium siding and help protect it.
