How to Glue a Broken Plate

One of the most difficult parts of mending broken ceramic plates is holding the pieces together while the glue sets. While you can tape the glued pieces together with masking tape or hold them in place with clay, an easier method is to use a thick cyanoacrylade-based instant glue. The glue sets quickly enough that you can hold the pieces together while it bonds, ensuring a tight fit. After the glue has set for 24 hours, you can wash and use the plate as usual.

Skill level:Moderately Easy

Things you need

Dish soapCotton ballNail polish removerInstant cyanoacrylade glueRazor blade

Instructions

1 Wash the broken edges of the plate with dish-washing liquid. Allow the pieces to dry, then run a cotton ball saturated in nail-polish remover along the broken edges to remove any soap residue.

2 Run one long bead of instant cyanoacrylade glue along one of the broken edges. Use the thickest glue you can find.

3 Press the corresponding edge against the glue bead and wiggle it slightly to ensure a perfect fit.

4 Hold the pieces together for 30 seconds or as directed on the glue package.

5 Allow the glue to set for 24 hours. Scrape off excess glue with a razor blade. Remove any remaining glue residue on the plate's surface with nail polish remover.
