Setting up a DVD/VCR player with a flat screen LCD TV and satellite receiver box requires two sets of standard audio/video cables to connect all the equipment with the DVD/VCR player in the middle. The DVD/VCR acts as a pass-through component for enjoying satellite programming on TV, or it can be used to record programs on videotape, and watch tapes and discs. The connections take less than five minutes.

Skill level:Moderately Easy

Things you need

Satellite box2 sets of composite AV cables with yellow, whitee and red plugsDVD/VCR playerLCD TV

Instructions

1 Plug a set of composite cables into the AV OUT jacks on the back of the satellite box. The yellow plug mates with the yellow video jack. The white and red plugs connect to the left and right Audio OUT jacks.

2 Attach the other end of the cables to the AV IN jacks on the back of the DVD/VCR player to transmit the signals from the satellite box.

3 Connect a second set of cables to the AV OUT jacks on the DVD/VCR player using the colour-coded yellow, red and white plugs.

4 Insert the other ends of the cables into the AV Composite IN jacks on the LCD TV. This connection transmits image and sound from the DVD/VCR player to the TV, including satellite programming when the satellite receiver box is turned on.

5 Press the "Input" button on the TV until the satellite signal appears on screen.

Tips and warnings

The VCR in the DVD/VCR combo player can be used to record satellite programming, although it will not be high-definition video. VCR technology can only capture video in standard definition.

Unplug all components from the wall outlets while connecting AV cables.
