Buick equipped the 2005 model-year Century automobiles with a two-speed, direct current motor to drive the windshield wipers. The wiper control module controls wiper motor speed by varying the voltage going to the motor. Age and use leads to wear in the wiper motor bearings and insulation breakdown of the windings in the motor, reducing or eliminating motor performance. Due to the construction of the motor as a sealed unit, individual motor components cannot be changed and the motor must be changed as a whole.
