Hair bows decorate your hair for a polished girlie look. If you need just the right colour and pattern for your bow, you can make it yourself with ribbons. A pinwheel bow is a large round bow resembling a pinwheel. Making a pinwheel bow using a ponytail holder to secure in your hair is simple and all you need is to cut out an easy-to-use template from cardboard. This ensures a perfectly aligned bow.

Instructions
1 Cut out a 1/4-inch wide notch in the middle of one side of your cardboard square using a pair of scissors. The notch should be 1 1/2 inches long. This will help guide you when you are making your pinwheel bow.
2 Place your ribbon in the centre of your cardboard template so the notch is facing to the right. Align the cut top of the ribbon to the top of the cardboard template, while still centring it.
3 Wrap the ribbon under and up the back of the template. Bring the ribbon down and over the template and overlap the first ribbon halfway. It should be wrapped twice with the ribbon hanging from the bottom.
4 Wrap the ribbon up the back of the cardboard again and bring the rest of the ribbon to the front of it. The ribbon should overlap halfway from the second ribbon. It should be wrapped three times with the start of the ribbon at the front top and the rest hanging down the front side. Each ribbon is overlapping the ribbon to its left halfway.
5 Trim any excess ribbon that is hanging down on the front side of the template. Clip your jumbo salon clip into the cut notch on the template. It should hold the ribbon in place.
6 Slide the ribbon off the cardboard template but leave it in the jumbo clip. Do not move any of the ribbon loops. Wrap embroidery floss around the centre of the ribbons in the middle of the clip twice. Your clip should be the kind that is open in the centre to perform this task easily.
7 Pull the floss tightly and tie it together in the back of the bow. Remove the clip. Tie the floss to a ponytail holder twice. Tie two knots to secure.
Tips and warnings
Use embroidery floss in the same colour as the ribbon if you want it to match.
A template is not necessary for this craft. Wrap the ribbon, place the salon clip in the centre of the wrappings and tie with the floss.
Secure the bow to a hair barrette or clip if you do not have a ponytail holder.
