How to Make Fluffy Tulle Bows

You can use fluffy tulle bows for a variety of things: to make a girl's hair bow, a party decoration or to decorate a gift. Tulle can be difficult to work with because it is slippery and shear. Often it is hard to tell which layer is on top. Use a pillow or a piece of cardboard that you can pin the tulle to when layering. This will prevent the tulle from slipping around.

Skill level:Moderately Easy

Things you need

TulleScissorsTape measure

Instructions

1 Cut the tulle to be 6 inches wide by 108 inches long. This will be the bow part of the bow. Cut another piece of tulle 6 inches wide by 15 inches long. This is for the tails of the bow.

2 Pin the 6-inch side of the tulle (top and bottom) cut for the bow to your cardboard or pillow. Measure 8 inches then pin the other side of the tulle down. Fold the tulle over to reach the beginning part of the tulle that was pinned down. Re-pin the tulle, putting the pins through the new top layer and the original bottom layer. Fold the tulle over to go back to the other side. Re-pin the other side and continue folding and pinning the tulle until you've folded all the tulle.

3 Fold the tulle cut for the tails of the bow in half. Tie the tails around the centre of the folded tulle at the half mark of the tails. Remove the pins and separate the layers of tulle to make a fluffy bow. Cut the tails of the bow to the desired length.

Tips and warnings

Use different measurements of tulle depending on the size of bow you desire. A hair bow will need to be considerably smaller than a bow used as a decoration.

You can buy tulle in rolls pre-cut to 6 inches wide. This will save time, but will end up costing more.

Try layering two colours of tulle when folding for the bow. When separated and fluffed the colours will show, creating a bow that has colour variations throughout.

For a fluffier bow, add another layer of tulle when folding or use a longer piece of tulle to fold.

If using the tulle bows to decorate, keep them away from candles or another heat source. If heated tulle can melt.
