How to Make Goat Wormer Using Herbs

Goats are very susceptible to parasites because of their grazing habits as well as their low immunity to diseases. While all goats have worms, the most dangerous type is the stomach worm which can cause death if left untreated. Luckily, goats can easily be administered an herbal remedy to resolve this problem.

Skill level:Moderate

Things you need

1 cup dry mustard seed powder2 cups cut up thyme2 cups cut up wormwood1 cup black walnut hull powder2 cups chopped sage1/2 cup chopped cloves1 cup psyllium seed powder2 cups diatomaceous earth

Instructions

1 Chop up the appropriate quantities of sage, thyme, cloves and wormwood. The rest of the ingredients will come as a powder already, so you do not need to alter their state before adding them to the mixture. If you have a large herd of goats, it might be wise to double the recipe.

2 Mix all of the ingredients in a large bucket or pail. If you plan on using this mixture to treat horses as well as goats, you should not add the black walnut. This is the only ingredient that can be dangerous to other animals and it is only dangerous when used to treat horses.

3 Sprinkle the mixture on the animal's feed both morning and night. A mature goat should be administered about one tablespoon twice a day.

4 Administer smaller amounts for non-mature goats. If you have younger goats, separate the feed to ensure the smaller animals are not receiving too much of the remedy. The amount of remedy administered to an animal should depend on its body weight. Since younger goats are commonly affected by parasites, they should be monitored carefully.

5 Continue administering the remedy to the affected goats for seven consecutive days. This will give enough time to control the parasites.

Tips and warnings

If a goat does not show signs of being affected by parasites, it can be left untreated.
