You can make simple and elegant necklace designs with satin cord. A satin cord necklace can stand alone with a single pendant, or you can add beads on either side of the pendant for a different design. If you plan to slide beads over a satin cord, make sure that the beads have large enough openings for the cord to slip through. Shell beads, wooden beads and handmade beads often have large openings. You can also find crystal and glass beads made with larger than usual openings. Look for satin cord and everything else you need to make a necklace at your local craft or bead supply store.

Instructions

1 Cut a length of satin cord equal to the desired length of your necklace.

2 Dip the tip of one end of the satin cord into liquid jeweller's glue. Insert the glued tip of the satin cord into the spiral end of one spring coil. Spring coils have a closed circle on one end and a wire spiral on the other. The spiral end will fit over most any type of beading cord.

3 Press the last two sections of the coil that is farthest away from the closed circle gently with your flat nose pliers. Apply enough pressure to squeeze the coil so that it will hold the satin cord.

4 Thread your beads or a pendant over the open end of the satin cord. If your necklace design includes beads and a pendant, thread half of the beads onto the cord first and then slide on the pendant. Make sure that you add an equal number of beads on either side of the pendant so it will hang properly in the centre of your necklace.

5 Attach the remaining spring coil to the open end of the satin cord. Make sure that you add glue before you slip on the coil.

6 Open one of the jump rings with your round nose pliers. Slide the ring over the closed circle on your spring coil. Slide the end of your clasp over the opening on the jump ring. Close the jump ring by squeezing it with the pliers.

7 Repeat Step 6 to attach the remaining jump ring and the other end of your clasp to the closed circle on the remaining spring coil.
