2 Draw a profile of the swim cap using your measurements. Divide your total head circumference measurement in half to give you the width for the profile.

3 Cut out two profile patterns, one for each side.

4 Cut a 15-inch to 19-inch section of nylon-Lycra material. The size depends on your head circumference.

5 Pin the two profile patterns front-to-front onto the nylon-Lycra material.

6 Cut the nylon-Lycra material around the pattern. Remove the pattern and sew the edges of the material together. Allow 2 1/2 to 3 inches between the patterns for the width of your head.

Tips and warnings

Use the elastic give in the nylon-Lycra material to expand the width of the swim cap.
