How to Prevent Image Retention on LCD TVs

Preventing image retention is important if you want to protect the investment you made when you purchased your LCD TV. By preventing image retention, you are making sure that images that are paused on your screen or photos that are displayed for long periods of time do not burn themselves into your LCD screen. LCD TVs have a built-in screen saver feature that is used to ensure that image retention does not occur.

Skill level:Moderately Easy

Instructions

1 Push the "Menu" button on your remote control.

2 Push the "Up" or "Down" arrow button to select "Picture." Press the "Right" arrow one time.

3 Use the "Up" or "Down" arrow to select "Picture Options." Press "Enter."

4 Press the "Down" arrow until you reach "Auto Protection Time." Press "Enter."

5 Press the "Right" arrow until you reach "2 hours." Press "Enter." This means that after two hours, the screen saver will turn on, thus preventing image retention.

Tips and warnings

While "2 hours" is the best setting to prevent image retention, you also can set the "Auto Protection Time" to "4 hours," "8 hours" or "10 hours." The important thing is that you do not set it to "Off." If it is set to "Off," the screen saver will never turn on.
