How to Print a CD Label in Microsoft Publisher

Whether you're trying to get a new gig for your band, compile something to keep you occupied on a long car ride or showing off your musical preferences, a custom mix CD is an ideal way to share a music sample. Don't stop with creating a custom CD -- make a personalised label to go along with it. The plain, silvery CDs used to record and house music files, videos and pictures are quickly dressed up with a CD label from Microsoft Publisher. With a few clicks through Publisher's CD label templates, you'll have a custom cover for the custom files.

Skill level:Moderate

Instructions

1 Open Microsoft Publisher. Click the "Labels" button in the "Most Popular" section of the "Available Templates" screen.

2 Double-click one of the "CD/DVD label" template buttons. Within a few moments, the CD label opens in the Publisher window.

3 Click the cursor into a placeholder text box on the label, which will vary by template. Type over the placeholder words with those for the label, such as the CD's title or the artist compiling the CD.

4 Type additional label information, such as the date, the list of included song names or file names, a song lyric or the name of the publishing company.

5 Click once on a graphic included on the label. Press the "Delete" key to remove it. Click the "Insert" tab at the top of the screen. Select the "Clip Art" button. Type a word or phrase related to the CD, such as "microphone," "music notes," "guitar" or "road trip" into the "Search for" box. Click "Go," scroll through the images and double-click a picture to add it to the CD label.

6 Click the "Page Design" tab at the top of the screen. Scroll through the groups of coloured squares in the "Schemes" section and double-click one to change the colours on the CD label.

7 Click the "File" tab at the top of the screen. Select "Save As." Type a name for the CD label and save it to the computer.

8 Click the "File" tab and select "Print." Turn on the printer, load in the CD label paper and squeeze the paper holders to set the paper in the tray. Click up the "Copies of print job" box to the number of CD labels to print. Click the "Print" button to print the CD labels.
