How to Remove Blur From an LCD

Colour blurring is an adverse effect that can degrade the quality of the screen and any programming featured on an LCD (liquid crystal display). Such blurring can be created by high-powered electrical interference, damaged VGA or DVI cables or simply overheating and overuse of the monitor. You can avoid expensive monitor repair costs and troubleshoot and fix the blur on your LCD screen irrespective of your level of familiarity with monitor technology.

Skill level:Moderately Easy

Instructions

1 Turn off your LCD screen and power off any connected device, such as a cable or satellite receiver box. Give both devices several minutes of rest, then power each back on. This may automatically correct the blurring problem.

2 Flip through the channels on your LCD if the monitor is being used as a television. If blurriness affects some channels but not others, the problem does not lie with your LCD hardware. Contact your cable or satellite service provider and report the problem, as this is something they will need to correct.

3 Check the coaxial cable if you are using a cable or satellite receiver in tandem with your LCD screen. Move the end of the cable gently around within the "ANT IN" port it's connected to on the receiver, then observe the effect this has on your screen. A loose coaxial cable can cause blurring and various static problems on your LCD, so tighten the cable by twisting the metal band on the end to the right. As you turn, be sure to also push upward on the band so as to work it farther toward the end of the cable. Continue twisting on the band until you can no longer rotate it.

4 Check the VGA or DVI cable that connects to your LCD if you are using the display to act as a monitor for a computer tower. The VGA cable will have each of its ends colour-coded blue, while the DVI cable will be colour-coded white. It is imperative that this cable not be damaged in any way, and that it is securely connected to either the VGA or DVI colour-coded ports on the back of the display and the back of the computer. Replace the cable if it is at all damaged.

5 Scout around the vicinity of the LCD screen and make sure there are no devices that are potentially interfering with the display. Additional computers, televisions and similarly powerful equipment may be creating interference that plays havoc with your LCD screen and causes blurriness and similar adverse effects. Move any such offending pieces of equipment to another room or to a more distant location.
