Due to the light weight of sheer curtains, sometimes it is necessary to use curtain weights in the bottom corners of the curtains to keep the curtains from fluttering in the breeze. Curtain weights are small round disks that resemble coins. To use curtain weights, you slip them into the hems of the curtains before stitching the hems. If you ever decide to remove sheer curtain weights from your sheer curtains, it is a simple matter of removing a few stitches from the hem and slipping the weights out of the hems.

Skill level:Easy

Things you need

Sheer curtainsSeam ripperNeedle and thread (to match the sheer curtains)

Instructions

1 Turn the sheer curtains to the backside so you can see the bottom hem clearly.

2 Feel through the hem until you feel the spot where the weights are located within the hem.

3 Insert the sharp point of the seam ripper through a hemstitch immediately above the curtain weight. Carefully cut the stitch with the blade of the seam ripper.

4 Pull out as many hemstitches above the curtain weight as necessary with the seam ripper. You must create a hole to allow you to slip the curtain weight out from inside the hem. Do not make the hole any larger than necessary.

5 Slide the curtain weight out of the hole you created in the hem.

6 Thread the needle with a 12-inch length of thread. Knot the end of the thread and restitch the hemstitches you removed to sew the hole in the hem closed.
