How to Repair Very Small Windshield Chips

Over time, driving and weather can pit and chip the windshield on your vehicle. Replacing a windshield on your vehicle is a timely and costly process, but you don't need to go through that if the windshield is just chipped and pitted from hail or small rocks. There are glass repair kits that will resurface the windshield and minimise the chips and pits in the windshield.

Skill level:Moderate

Things you need

Windex or other window cleanerTowelMasking tapeGlass polishing kitSmall panElectric drillSafety gogglesWater spray bottle

Instructions

1 Park the vehicle in a shady area to prevent seeing glares on the windshield.

2 Wipe the windshield clean with window cleaner and a towel.

3 Go inside the vehicle.

4 Mark the chips on the outside of the windshield by sticking a small piece of masking tape to the underside of the chip on the inside of the windshield.

5 Open the glass polishing kit. Read the instructions and mix the polishing solution with the correct amount of water listed on the kit in the small pan with the mixing stick in the kit.

6 Tighten the felt bit, which came in the glass polishing kit, into the electric drill.

7 Dip the felt bit into the polishing solution.

8 Place the felt bit tip onto the chipped part of the windshield on the outside of the windshield.

9 Pull the trigger on the drill and buff the chipped area until it is gone. Keep the felt bit tip moist by dipping the bit again in the polishing solution as needed. Spray the windshield with water to prevent the windshield from drying and heating up to much.

10 Clean the windshield with a towel and water. Remove the masking tape and you're done!

Tips and warnings

Wear safety goggles to prevent polishing solution from getting into your eyes.
