You have earned that promotion in the Army and received all the commendations that come with it. The patches you received as part of the commendations identify your rank and the unit you are assigned to. Sewing the patch to your uniform is not only an important step, if you do not place the patch properly, it could result in disciplinary actions. With practice, you can sew them on at home in minutes.

Instructions

1 Lay out the patches next to the clothes they need to be attached to. Each patch must be clean and free of dirt or fuzz. Consult the Army Regulation Handbook 670-1 for instructions on the placement of each patch, depending on the rank and the unit the soldier is assigned to.

2 Attach the patches to the clothing with tape or straight pins. Place the patches in the proper location and straighten them.

3 Sew the patches with your sewing machine in the proper location on the uniform along the inside edge of the patch. Use thread that matches the colour of the inside edge of the patch, or use clear thread. Back stitch the beginning and end to keep the thread in place.

4 Clip any loose thread ends from the patch with the scissors.
