How to Transition Hair with a Roller Set

Many women with chemically relaxed hair often decide to go natural. This process is often called transitioning because you are transitioning from relaxed hair to natural hair. Many women who are fed up with chemicals decide against transitioning because they don't want to cut their long hair super short. It is possible to transition without cutting your hair by doing a roller set on your hair. To do this you will stop getting chemical relaxers, get a roller set every week and slowly cut the relaxed part of your hair. A tight roller set will help stretch and straighten your hair, so the difference in texture is not noticeable.

Things you need

Shampoo with proteinConditioner with proteinStraightening serumRollersCombLong hair clipsHooded dryer

Instructions

1 Wash you hair with a protein-packed shampoo. The protein will help prevent frizz, so your natural hair will fall as flat as possible when styled.

2 Condition your hair with quality conditioner that also contains protein.

3 Apply a straightening serum to your hair.

4 Part your hair with the comb the way you want it to fall when styled.

5 Roll 1-inch sections of your hair starting from the top of the part and continuing down and back. Use the roller size that best fits your hair. Longer hair will need jumbo rollers, while shorter hair will need smaller rollers.

6 Use a long hair clip to hold the hair in place on the roller.

7 Sit under the hooded dryer for 30 minutes. You may need more or less time depending on the length and thickness of your hair.

8 Remove the rollers and style your hair.

Tips and warnings

If your hair starts to dry, then spray it from a water-filled bottle. Hair needs to be wet when rolled.

Maintain your style by covering your hair at night. You may need to bump the ends or straighten the roots in the morning. You can use a flat iron for this.

There are several videos on YouTube.com that show how to roller set transitioning hair if you need more help.

There are several websites listed in the resources section that offers great tips and advice on transitioning.
