Oil specifically for high-mileage vehicles should be used in a vehicle with at least 75,000 miles. High-mileage synthetic oil has superior engine-cleaning properties compared with regular synthetic oil, which helps remove sludge from an engine. High-mileage oil also helps prevent leaks common in high-mileage vehicles. Synthetic oil helps to keep engines clean, prevent wear and rust, and improve friction. Synthetic oil works better than conventional oil in extremely high or low temperatures.

Instructions

1 Inspect your engine for oil leaks or have a professional do it. You can switch to synthetic oil on high-mileage cars, but you should fix any oil leaks before doing so. Accept it's a myth that synthetic oil should not be used on old cars; it can help keep old engines clean and running better than conventional oil.

2 Refer to your owners manual for the correct oil viscosity for your vehicle and for the amount of oil your vehicle needs. Know that oil comes in different viscosities, such as 5W-30 or 10W-30.

3 Begin changing your oil the same way as you would change conventional oil. After draining the old oil out of your car, changing the oil filter and tightening the drain plug, use a funnel to pour the high-mileage synthetic oil into your engine the same way you would pour conventional motor oil.

4 Change your high-mileage synthetic oil every 5,000 miles or every six months, whichever comes first.

Tips and warnings

High-mileage synthetic oil can be used in diesel and gas engines.
