Wireless repeaters are devices that boost the effective range of your wireless router. Wireless repeaters are easy to install and do not require any wiring or cabling that might clutter up the wireless set-up of your home network. The wireless repeater allows you to overcome interference and architecture issues that may be causing problems with your wireless router signal. You do not need a specific brand of wireless repeater, but you do need to match the wireless standard used by your wireless router in order to obtain the maximum wireless network speed.

Skill level:Moderately Easy

Things you need

Network name and passwordRouter MAC addressRouter IP address

Instructions

1 Position your wireless repeater between your wireless router and the area of the house that needs a better signal. Plug the wireless repeater into an electrical socket and turn it on.

2 Go to a computer on the network and type the wireless repeater's default IP address. This IP address varies based on manufacturer and allows you to access its Web-based set-up page.

3 Input the network name and password, along with the router IP and MAC address into the appropriate fields. Select the wireless security protocol used by your wireless router. The set-up pages vary based on repeater brand, but you generally need to go into the "Wireless" section for these fields. Save your changes.
