A luncheon is a formal gathering involving a midday meal with a group, usually for business or social purposes. When planning a luncheon, create centrepieces that mark the season in a stylish way.

Spring Showers

The saying "Spring showers bring May flowers" refers to the heavy rain in the early spring months. For a spring luncheon, therefore, create centrepieces using brightly coloured paper parasols. Fill coloured glass vases with sand and plant the parasol handle into the sand so that it stands upright. Place a small wreath of white flowers around the base of the vase, then put four scented votive candles around the centrepiece to create the aroma of spring.

Fall Fillers

For an autumn luncheon centrepiece, group three or more glass vases together in cylinder, square or bowl shapes and fill each one with a different fall-themed decorative filler, such as candy corn, cranberries and small pumpkins or gourds. Prior to adding the filler, place a large pillar candle in the centre of the mix--pillar candles are wide, freestanding candles that are typically used alone in a decorative arrangement.

Holiday Cans and Candles

Turn economy-size tin cans into Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's centrepieces. First, remove the paper label from each can, then attach a string of old pearls around the rim of each can using a hot-glue gun. Next, fill each can with water and place red and white floating candles in them; gold and white candles also work if you're trying to create a neutral look. Place three tiny white votive candles around each can as complementary lighting. Place a can on each table.
