My HP Pavilion Entertainment PC Won't Turn on

HP Pavilion entertainment PCs are typically reliable, allowing for the storage of users' movies, music, photos and games. When a user cannot get these higher-end machines to run or power on, it can be very frustrating. A few quick troubleshooting techniques can help determine the problem.

Skill level:Easy

Instructions

1 Unplug the Pavilion's power cord from the wall and allow it to stay unplugged for a minute or so. Plug the unit back into the wall after the given time.

2 Observe the rear of the machine around the area where the power plug plugs directly into the unit. Look for a green light. If it comes on, your machine is pulling electricity. If not, the power supply is likely the culprit. Look into a replacement power supply.

3 Power on the machine again by pressing the power button, typically located on the front of the HP Pavilion. If it powers on, it simply needed that discharge from unplugging it.

4 Press and hold the power button for longer, if simply pressing it does not bring the machine to life. If the unit still refuses to power on, yet the green light on the rear of the unit is on, it is likely the power switch in line with the button and power supply. Consider replacing the switch or button, unless you are not comfortable with wiring. Always remember to unplug the unit before you begin working inside of it.

Tips and warnings

If you are not familiar with, or not comfortable around electric wiring, take your machine into a repair shop so that they may diagnose your computer's issues and resolve them.
