Panda Nursery Ideas

Pandas make a cute and cuddly theme for baby's room with their teddy bear shape and black eye patches. The giant panda is known around the world for its distinctive black and white markings, 99 per cent bamboo diet, and its Chinese homeland. Unfortunately, the giant panda is an endangered species, but you can still bring a bit of this magnificent creature home to your baby through a themed room.

Textiles

An important part of your nursery theme is crib bedding. Shop around for panda-themed crib sets. If you can't find a suitable panda bedding set, buy panda fabric and make it yourself or hire a seamstress. If an all-panda set seems like overkill you can combine black and white sheets, or sheets with a bamboo print or Chinese-themed design. Use bamboo window shades and a furry black and white area rug.

Furniture

Choose bamboo or light-coloured natural wood furniture in simple contemporary styles, or select ornate Chinese-style furniture in darker cherry tones. Make a panda accent piece by painting a dresser white with black drawers. Use either white or decorative panda drawer pulls. Paint or stencil bamboo on the sides.

Accessories and Accents

Accentuate your panda theme by adding small touches around the room. Apply a panda wallpaper border, or paint a wall stencil or panda mural. Shop for panda artwork, lamps, light switch covers and other accessories. Put a large potted bamboo plant in a corner of the room or place a small curly bamboo on a shelf. Look for other accessories in black and white. Add an assortment of plush panda bears.
