Pros & cons of paintless dent removal

Paintless dent repair is a method of fixing dents and dings in a car without the drilling, filling, sanding and retouching of other repairs. This method of dent repair has been around since the 1940s and originally was developed to fix the minor dings that cars suffered while on the assembly line. Manufacturer's stopped needing paintless dent repair as they found ways to improve the manufacturing process, but the technique gained popularity in bodyworks garages in the 1980s.

Warranty

An advantage of paintless dent repair is that it does not affect the warranty on the car's paint or finish. Painting any part of your car usually voids the factory paint and finish warranties.

No Matching

Because paintless dent repair does not require any painting, there is no need to worry that the repair shop will have trouble matching the painted section of your car with the original paint job.

Structure

Paintless dent repair has no affect on the car's structural integrity.

Time is Money

Repairing dents using paintless dent repair is faster and less expensive than other dent repair methods.

Limitations

Scratches cannot be repaired using paintless dent repair.

Metal Only

Only metal parts of the car can be fixed with paintless dent repair. Damage to plastic parts cannot be repaired using this method, and plastic bumpers are often the part of the car that is dented.

Location

The tools and techniques of paintless dent repair simply cannot reach every part of a car's body and may not be an option depending on the location of the dent.
