Space Saver Ideas for the Kitchen

Saving space in the kitchen is the dream of many a homeowner. Despite rows of cabinets and long countertops and room beneath the sink and oven, there just never seems to be enough storage space for your kitchen equipment. Perhaps that is because you have been looking in the wrong places or going about finding extra space in the wrong way.

Displaying Kitchen Items

One way to create more storage space in your kitchen is to free up currently used space and one way to do that is to look at what you've currently got from the perspective of display items. Rather than hiding decorative plates inside a kitchen cabinet, put them on display in the living room. If you've got an extensive collection of different styles of pots and pans, hang them on hallway wall as if they were a showcase of Pop Art.

Country Kitchen Clutter

One of the sneakiest ways to find more storage space in your kitchen is to adopt the classic country kitchen style. One of the hallmarks of country kitchen design is the visible exhibition of equipment used for cooking. Hang a rack over your kitchen island from which you suspend all your pots and pans and instead of looking cluttered, it will look ideally country kitchen style. According to "The Country Kitchen," a good way to save space in the kitchen while remaining true to the country decor is to hang pegboards on the wall which can be adorned with pots and pans or utensils ranging from old-fashioned egg beaters to cheese graters.

Cabinet-Depth Refrigerator

If you can find a way to take advantage of cabinet-depth refrigerators, you can save up to eight inches of traffic space in your kitchen. A cabinet-depth refrigerator creates a smooth line along the wall as it no longer juts forward to take up room. Adding this appliance can open up the kitchen by inches, but come to seem like it is giving you much more free space than that.

Floor-To-Ceiling Lazy Susan

Those who are really serious about saving space in the kitchen might want to consider inspecting their current kitchen layout to determine where best to install a floor-to-ceiling lazy Susan cabinet. "Sunset Complete Home Storage" recommends a size that is 12 feet from top to bottom and is fitted with three sections each reached by separate doors that contain three levels of lazy Susan storage space. It is also recommended that you can go even higher if you can for storing kitchen seasonal kitchen items only needed once a year.
